The Essential Study Skills & Executive Function Workshop
Academy for College Preparation and Career Exploration (17K382)
Brooklyn, NY
Spring 2025

Results Overview

The results from the pre- and post-workshop surveys demonstrate the powerful and measurable impact of the Essential Study Skills & Executive Function Workshop on student behavior, engagement, and academic confidence. By equipping students with proven tools and strategies for learning, organization, and self-advocacy, the workshop created meaningful shifts not only in how students approach school but how they see themselves as learners.

Across all six key categories, students reported significant improvements, with especially strong gains in classroom participation, test preparation, and the ability to complete schoolwork effectively. These findings affirm the value of structured academic support programs in fostering independent, motivated, and resilient students.

Key Findings

School Attendance (Pre: 4.1 → Post: 4.6) A twelve percent increase indicates that more students were consistently attending class following the workshop. This shift suggests that students may have developed better time management, organization, and motivation—factors that reduce missed school days. It also reflects an improved sense of responsibility and academic readiness.

Class Participation (Pre: 3.5 → Post: 4.5) A significant increase in participation demonstrates that students became more engaged and confident in speaking up during class. The workshop helped students develop strategies to prepare for class discussions, manage anxiety, and build the communication skills needed to contribute actively.

Feeling Connected to School (Pre: 3.8 → Post: 4.7) This notable 25% growth suggests students felt more emotionally and socially integrated after the workshop. A deeper connection to school can improve behavior, motivation, and academic outcomes, indicating the workshop helped students see themselves as more valued members of their academic community.

Comfort Asking Teachers for Help (Pre: 3.8 → Post: 4.5) One of the most significant jumps. The workshop likely dismantled communication barriers, improved self-advocacy skills, and reduced stigma around asking for assistance. This kind of progress empowers  students to take initiative in their learning.

Confidence in Completing Schoolwork (Pre: 3.9 → Post: 4.8) This is one of the strongest areas of growth. This shift reflects greater trust in students’ ability to manage assignments. Tools provided in the workshop, such as time-blocking, checklists, or chunking large tasks, may have helped students feel more in control of their workload.

Confidence in Test Preparation (Pre: 3.7 → Post: 4.7) A full-point increase here indicates that students left the workshop with powerful new test-prep strategies. They likely gained exposure to methods such as active recall, spaced study schedules, and more organized review routines. This boost in confidence is a key outcome, especially for students who previously felt unprepared or anxious about exams.

Confidence in Test Preparation (Pre: 3.3 → Post: 4.7) A major improvement. Students likely left the workshop with concrete and powerful new test-prep strategies. Students learned study techniques such as active recall, spaced study schedules, and how to organize review routines. This boost in confidence is a key outcome, especially for students who previously felt unprepared or anxious about exams.

Summary

Every metric in the post-workshop survey shows measurable and meaningful improvement. The largest growth areas— class participation, test preparation, and completion of schoolwork — suggest that the workshop effectively tackled some of the most significant academic hurdles students face. The workshop clearly played a role in shifting students’ mindsets, equipping them with tools and strategies that fostered self-efficacy, improved learning behaviors, and strengthened their relationships with school and teachers.
