Post-workshop responses show significant positive shifts in several areas:
- Study Skills: Before the workshop, a portion of students felt only “sort of” confident in their study skills. After the workshop, all students responded with increased certainty, suggesting a boost in study confidence.
- Test Preparation: Similar to study skills, more students felt prepared to handle tests post-workshop. There was a notable increase in “yes” responses, indicating a stronger understanding of test prep strategies learned during the sessions.
- Time Management: Students’ self-assessments on time management showed improvement but not as much as the other questions. We believe this is because students are not used to thinking about planning ahead in any way. Chunking out one’s assignment and scheduling it over time appeared to be a brand-new concept for a majority of the students.
Overall, the workshop, as indicated by our before-and-after survey, had measurable positive results in influencing students’ confidence in study-related skills, with particularly noticeable improvements in study habits and test preparation.
Parameters:
• 24 high school students participated in the Essential Study Skills & Executive Function Workshop
• Each student participated in a total of 4.5 hours of instruction
• Six sessions of 45 minutes in length were offered over six consecutive weeks
